The world’s richest gold mine that comes with a sight that will leave you awestruck. A gaping hole stretching 3.5 kilometres long and 1.5 kilometres wide and 600 meters deep. This is the one and only super pit, a 30-year-old operating open-cut gold mine.
Stand on the viewing platform and try to comprehend the sheer scale of the operation. In testament to the richness of the soil beneath your feet, 50 million ounces have been unearthed from this single mine. Giant haul trucks rumble across the mine floor like mechanical ants, dwarfed by the immensity of the pit itself. The Super Pit is a reminder of earth’s bounty and humans ongoing quest for precious resources. Throughout your experiences, you will wonder about the future of mining and the legacy it will leave behind.
Guided tours offer a deeper understanding of the mine's operation, a significant contributor to Australia’s economy. The mine employs more than 1,200 people and is a great illustration of Australia’s commitment to the entire resource mining industry. Come see the complex network of drills, crushers, and processing plants that extract gold from the ore.
Note:
Tours are not currently in operation due to construction and activity. In the interim, the public Super Pit Lookout is open daily from 7am-7pm. Alternatively, Hannans North Tourist Mine completes the experience with blast footage, a decommissioned truck and a scale model of the Fimiston Open Pit.
