You may have heard of the boomerang, didgeridoo, and the spear that Aboriginal people have used for millennia for hunting, gathering, and ceremony. But you probably never thought you would get the opportunity to build your own spear for free! Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11 AM to 2 PM at the Bowali Visitor Centre is where your hands-on chance comes to learn traditional skills passed down through generations. Under the guidance of skilled Aboriginal instructors, you will go through the entire spear-making process, from selecting the right wood to shaping, sharpening, and attaching the spearhead. This rare opportunity immerses you in the heart of Aboriginal culture and helps you gain a deeper appreciation for traditional skills. It is essential to pre-register to secure your spot. Unfortunately, this activity is only available for men due to traditional cultural purposes, but spectators are welcome.
