Buried beneath the golden sands lie thrilling opportunities for adventure. Take a break from carving on the water and replace with carving on sand or if you are a non-surfer, just come and experience the exhilarating feeling of the wind brushing through your hair.
The best spots to rip it down the hills are Wanna Sandhills in the Port Lincoln National park, Gunya Dunes, and 7 Mile Beach Dunes in Coffin Bay National Park. Wanna Sandhills is the closest and most popular, just 25 minutes out of town with a range of sizes for beginners and experts. Coffin Bay caters more to the adventurous with steeper slopes to perfect your carving techniques. A great way to boost your time in Coffin Bay is to add a 4WD trip and check out the secluded beaches.
Before you start shredding the sand, make sure you don’t shred yourself. Dress for the slide, try to cover up your skin as much as possible, even better if you have something covering your face to keep sand out of your mouth. Start small just to get familiar with the environment and while going with a buddy is ideal, if you are going by yourself make sure someone knows where you are going, the local visitor center is a top choice.
