Not your average day trip, this is for the adventurous soul, the one who craves the thrill of the unknown and the beauty of untouched landscapes. To unlock the full potential, you are going to need a 4WD and some technical skills. Alternatively, you can come out on tour. As you drive and walk around the best areas to explore, be prepared to view and photograph soaring red cliffs contrasting with turquoise waters teeming with life.
Cape Peron, marking the most westerly point on Australia’s mainland, is a dramatic spot of world-class beach fishing from the shoreline with an abundance of groper and a lookout point where the vastness of the desert meets the endless blue sea. Skipjack Point offers a short, lazy, and easy 1.5-kilometre walk (or drive) from Cape Peron to a privileged front-row vantage point. Keep your eyes peeled for sharks, graceful rays, turtles, and maybe even a dugong gliding by! Another prime location to test your fishing skills is Little Gregories.
To truly soak up the beauty and tranquillity of Francois Peron National Park, plan for a full day trip. The vast panoramic views are unforgettable, and the wildlife encounters will leave you speechless. On your way back to Denham, make sure to take a pit stop at the natural homestead hot tub. Just before you head off in your 4WD or tour, make sure to tick off your checklist – water, sun protection, snacks, and check road conditions with the Information Visitor Centre.
