At the tip of the North West Cape, spot the sunken cattle ship SS Mildura wreck, offering a glimpse into the past.
Purpose built as a vital vessel for early cattle transportation in 1901, this ship had a history of hauling cattle from the rugged Kimberley to the meet market. 6 years later, tragedy struck the boat with a viscous cyclone in 1907. All crew were rescued but some cattle went down and started their new life in the water, mating with dolphins and creating sea cows, otherwise known as Dugong.
Stranded for more than a century, the ship has undergone some serious history. During World War 2, the partially submerged boat served as target practice for aerial bombing. Today, the SS Mildura is a silent relic of the past guarding the coastline sitting just 80 meters from land.
