Dumaresq Dam, located near Armidale, has undergone significant redevelopment to transform from a day-use only area into a welcoming free campground. This picturesque site, known for its fishing, kayaking, and swimming opportunities, has become a favoured spot for weekend retreats due to its serene environment and lush vegetation.
The redevelopment has introduced a variety of facilities that enhance the camping experience. New amenities include a modern block with toilets and showers, as well as picnic shelters that provide shaded areas for relaxation and meals. The campground now features designated areas for tents and unpowered motor homes, as well as powered sites for those who need them, making it accessible for all types of campers. Improvements in infrastructure, such as bitumen roads and parking areas, ensure easy access and convenience for visitors.
One of the standout features of the revamped Dumaresq Dam is the enhanced recreational facilities. The area now boasts a long bay parking area and an upgraded boat ramp, facilitating water activities like boating and fishing. An artificial beach and sandstone wall have been added, creating a delightful spot for swimming and sunbathing. Visitors can stay for a maximum of 72 hours, allowing them to fully enjoy the natural beauty and tranquillity of the site.
