The living Thrombolite fossils, formed by microscopic organisms over millions of years, are a unique natural wonder found at Lake Richmond. Come stretch back time of the Noongar people, the traditional custodians of the land. Lake Richmond offers a boardwalk to view the fossils and learn the connection to land that has been richly used for food and water with aboriginal presence dating back thousands of years.
Despite the proximity to the coast, Lake Richmond is a freshwater ecosystem with calm waters offering a sanctuary to a diverse range of birds such as the pelicans who glide across the surface, Black Swans adding a touch of elegance, and other waterbirds joining in the chorus.
The diverse landscape found at Lake Richmond is an ideal place to escape the hustle and bustle of city life while being a photographers paradise. Capture the majestic birds in flight, the thrombolites fossil formation, and for a little extra, time your visit with sunset.
